Pencil Drawing Basics- Creating Perfect Strokes

Before you learn drawing realistic eyelashes, you need to focus on the quality of your strokes. So, the first step is to try drawing strokes continuously. Practice it until you can achieve the technique of creating smooth strokes consistently. Use the sharp side of the pencil or a sharpened pencil to practice drawing smooth strokes. Don’t use too soft pencil or too textured paper to avoid the strokes look grainy. You have to put more pressure at the beginning of the stroke and lift the pencil swiftly toward the end of the eyelash. Make sure the end point doesn’t become blunt. If it is, add another stroke. If it looks inconsistent, use the eraser delicately. In case the strokes become angular, slower the process down. To avoid drawing wobbly strokes, loose your grip or use your elbow and wrist move more than your fingers.

Eyelash Angle

Application

Do a line drawing of an eye first. Draw first three lashes on every lid, so that you can identify the areas where you will draw lashes in the forward, left and right direction. Decide whether your lashes will be pointing upwards or downwards. Decide on the curves too at this stage.

Before you focus on details, having an idea of angle changes are important. Draw the lashes from the outer age of the lids, don’t start from very near to the eyeballs.
